The cells exhibit elevated expression of the FK506-binding immunophilin FKBP51. FKBP51 is the common cause of glucocorticoid resistance. Chromosome analysis of GSML cells confirm that they are from Guyanese squirrel monkey. The Guyanese squirrel monkey and the Bolivian squirrel monkey differ in response to pathologic and pharmacologic stimuli. |

The base medium for this cell line is ATCC-formulated RPMI-1640 Medium, ATCC 30-2001. To make the complete growth medium, add the following components to the base medium: fetal bovine serum (ATCC 30-2020) to a final concentration of 10%.

| Subculturing |
Protocol: Cultures can be maintained by the addition of fresh medium or replacement of medium. Alternatively, cultures can be established by centrifugation with subsequent resuspension at 3 X 10 exp5 viable cells/ml. Maintain cell density between 3 X 10 exp5 and 3 X 10 exp6 viable cells/ml.
