Animals were immunized with CH 71 Chinese hamster ovary cells that had been transfected with a plasmid bearing a truncated form of the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) cDNA. Spleen cells were fused with NS-1 mouse myeloma cells. The antibody is specific for the human epidermal growth factor receptor and is capable of inhibiting the growth of human tumor cells expressing human epidermal growth factor receptors. |

Protocol: Cultures can be maintained by the addition of fresh medium or replacement of medium. Alternatively, cultures can be established by centrifugation with subsequent resuspension at 2 to 3 X 10 exp5 viable cells/ml.
